// Service department 101
What the hell is a tenth?
If you have never worked in a service department, start here.
Flagged hours
A technician's day is often measured in labor hours attached to completed work, not simply the hours spent inside the building. Those credited units are commonly called flagged hours.
Flat-rate compensation
A published labor time may determine how many hours a repair pays. Finish sooner and the credited hours can exceed clock time. Run into corrosion, diagnostics, programming, teardown, or documentation, and the opposite can happen.
Warranty labor operations
Manufacturers assign labor operation codes and time allowances to covered repairs. Those allowances may differ from time associated with comparable customer-pay work.
Why compare them?
Same repair. Different time. Structured examples let us measure whether those differences form patterns. No slogans required.
